Clean, oil, and store hand tools
A wire brush, a wipe of oil, and sharp bypass pruners make winter pruning pleasant. Drain hoses and irrigation. Hang tools; don't leave them in the wet wheelbarrow.
Steps
- Scrape soil. Wash. Dry.
- Oil wooden handles with boiled linseed. Wipe metal with light oil.
- Sharpen pruners and loppers. Replace springs that have given up.
- Drain and coil hoses. Blow out drip lines if you get hard freezes.
Tips
- A bucket of oily sand is an old trick for wiping spades after each use.
