Service the mower and sharpen blades

Change oil, replace the spark plug, add stabilizer or drain gas, and sharpen or swap the blade. A sharp blade is the cheapest disease-control product you will own.

Steps

  1. Disconnect the spark plug before you touch the blade.
  2. Sharpen at the original angle. Balance the blade on a nail.
  3. Change oil and plug. Fog the cylinder if you store long-term.
  4. Use ethanol-free gas or stabilizer. Old gas is why spring mowers sulk.

Tips

  • Keep a second blade so you can swap midseason instead of mowing with soup.
