Lime acidic soil

Many cool, rainy climates drift acidic. Fertilizer then sits unused. Pelletized lime is easier to spread evenly than ag lime. It is slow — this is not a weekend color change.

Steps

  1. Confirm pH below the target (often 6.0–7.0 for lawns).
  2. Apply the lab's rate with a spreader, in two directions.
  3. Water in. Do not lime and fertilize in the same hour if the bag warns against it.

Tips

  • Alkaline western soils need sulfur, not lime. Guessing is how people wreck hydrangeas.
